Thanks for the suggestion Joey. I have been toying with that idea but was leaning towards a more permanent structure and not getting very far. I will have to re-think it more along your line of thought.

So...what kind of poly are you running through it? How many coats do you put down? If you wait in between coats, does the sprayer get clogged up or do you clean it after every coat of poly is applied?

Thanks!

I echo all of Ted's questions... but maybe this should be in a new thread altogether :)

I'm going to buy a spray system, just not sure which one yet. I want to increase efficiency with finish coats. I've also been trying to look into alternatives to the Minwax Polycrylic to try and find something that can be sprayed, requires less coats, and dries fast. You know, the ultimate finishing system, ha!

I used a round over bit one time for the holes. Everyone started popping ringers like it was nobody's business. The round edge was pulling the bags in like a penny gravity well at the grocery store - you know what I mean. Then again I used a huge bit. oops

I use a 3/8" or 1/4" bit for the hole and the diameter is decreased by 1/4". I have not seen too much of an increase in ringers, but the multiple bags getting dragged down together has gone up.

Drawback - Overspray. I don't have a paint booth so I remove moveable stuff like my riding mower, etc. from my garage, cover stationary tools with towels, and open all doors and windows before spraying. Because of that, I try to plan my work so that I am finishing three games at a time.

Steve

On the subject of paint booths. I found a site on how to make a paint booth in you garage at this web address http://www.wikihow.com/Create-a-Paint-B ... our-Garage . I used their basic concept but instead of using PVC I used 2x2 lumber which works better when applying the poly sheeting. This way you can use a staple gun and mount the sheeting to each frame individually.

How I made what I call my po' mans paint booth. First is determine how big of a booth you want. My booth measures 5.5' w x 6' d x 6.5' h. With this size you can fit a board in the center of the booth and then I have a make shift turntable that I use to place the board on. With the board on the turntable I can turn the board a full 360 degrees and have a little over 4 inches of clearance on both sides at the closest points. I am a taller guy so you can adjust the height to better suit you. If anyone is interested I have CAD drawings of my booth which can be made easily into a .pdf which I could email. Send me an email cornholecreations@yahoo.com if you are interested.

Sorry buddy. I started a new career on Monday, and I have been crazy busy and slightly stressed. Just read this right now.

Yes, I bought a sprayer. I'll get you the details/model numbers etc etc when I get home tonight. But, what I can tell you is that it is a HVLP sprayer I bought at Lowe's. I have used it for poly and for primer, but not for painting yet. I also won't use it for primer again. Just seemed too thick for my tastes.

I have yet to do a customer's set with the sprayed poly. I've just been testing over and over again. To be honest, I'm scared that I'll mess up a finished set. So, I've been practicing and testing over and over again, and am now pretty confident that I can start using it on my customer's boards.

It's a very simple setup, and a very simple process as far as use goes. The biggest things I watch out for are:

--Overspray, which I battle by covering things in plastic sheeting, which I have hnaging from the ceiling in the basement. When I go to spray, I roll down the sheeting, spray, wait a little bit, then roll the sheeting back up.
--"Gloppiness" is what I call the next thing. I have been making sure to watch the poly as I pour it into the gun. If there are some of those little white-ish chunks in there, I pull them out. I might have to start using that tea strainer trick someone mentioned though. Genious!~
--I still sand down before the final coat. This gets out any imperfections from dust, hairs, fuzzies that were floating in the air, etc etc.

I'll get some pics, maybe even a video up asap.

Milky,

Very, very curious about this. Please post a video or pictures of your sprayer.

Thanks!
