New set finished

Postby joeyb6571 on Thu Feb 04, 2010 7:39 pm

Just finished my new set. These are Poplar tops stained with colonial maple and pocket hole screwed and glued together. They have a 1in overhang and I added a few extras like rubber feet at the bottom and adjustable legs since we play on uneven pavement all the time. The deck logos were done by Billm75 and I gotta say they blow away the store bought decals on the backs of the boards. Let me know what you guys think this is my 3rd set and I would like any thoughts or ideas that could be make them better next time.

i'm a hardcore UK fan and it hurts me to say those boards are great. i wish my third set looked that good. i've never seen poplar plywood anywhere, did you have to go to a cabnet shop or specialty supplier?

Cheeks believe it or not they had it on clearance at my local home depot. 4x8 sheets for $26. It was in really good shape with almost no green streaks in it and I only put one coat of the stain on it and it came out really even. I have stained poplar before but never with this kind of results. As far as the Uk thing I just cant get behind any team with a tiger or cat as the logo but atleast you guys dont have that pumpkin orange in your colors LOL.

Thanks Derrick, the only thing not in the picture is the colored plugs. You can see the holes in the board where they go. What i did was buy two 99cent wood door knobs the kind that most folding doors use and then drilled them out in the back and glued in a 3/8in dowel about 1/2inch long so they fit in the holes. I dipped each one in one of the paint colors which gives them a real thick coat. The first scoreboard i made used golf tees and everyone complained they could not see the score from the other end so I thought this might solve that problem for all of my blind friends. LOL
