Cornhole 4 Kids Rules

Rules contributed by Cornolina.com
Cornhole 4 Kids – Aged 7 and under  (For 2 – 4 players)

Equipment Needed:

  • 2 Cornhole Boards
  • 8 Cornhole Bags (4 per team,
  • different colors)
  • Scoreboard (optional)

Game Setup:

  • Place the boards on a flat, level surface, with the leading edge (lower end) of the  boards roughly 15 feet apart.
  • Players on teams will throw from opposing boards, facing each other.
  • The “foul line” is an imaginary line that runs even with the front edge of the Cornhole board.
  • Players may throw from either side of the board.

Game Play:

  • Decide who will go first by tossing a coin, guessing a number, etc.
  • Bags should be tossed underhand, like a softball pitch.
  • Player/Team 1 will throw their first bag.  Player/Team 2 will then throw their first bag.  All players alternate throws until all bags have been played.
  • Before bags are removed from game board, scores are tallied up.  For this age group, we play to 15 and all points count.
  • The team who scored the most points gets to throw first in the next round.
  • Game play continues until one team scores a total of 15 or more points.

Scoring:

  • A bag landing on the board is 1 point.  A bag in the hole is worth 3 points.
  • Bags that bounce on the ground first do not count and should be removed from the board before the next player tosses his or her bag.
  • All points are scored for the teams.  If Team One gets 3 bags on the board, they get 3 points.  If Team Two gets 3 bags on the board, they get 3 points.  This helps to keep the game moving along.
  • First team to 15 or more points wins that game.
  • A “Best 2 Out Of 3” format is suggested for this age group.
  • All bags knocked off the board do not count for points.

Variations:

  • If playing one on one games, players will walk to opposite board after 4 bags are thrown and will throw again at the first board.
  • If playing one on one games and you only have one set of boards, you can run two games using just one board and two sets of bags for each.  You will have to mark off a throwing line 15 – 20 feet from the leading edge of the game board.
  • Scoring can be adjusted to suit your needs.  First to 11, first with a bag in the hole, etc.  There are no hard and fast rules as to how to play or score your game.
  • For team play with only one board, let players each throw 2 bags per round.  Team One Player One throws, Team Two Player One throws, Team One Player Two throws, etc.
